Where are the most affordable places to travel in Europe?

That depends on your definition of affordable, almost everywere in Europe you can travel without braking the bank (even to places like Paris), the key is to try to save money on accomodation (which is normally the biggest expense), still if you are looking for new places to visit, these would be my favorites:

  • Prague, I know very turistic but is still affordable in many ways since it isn't a euro country yet.
  • Krakow (I insist this is one of the best keep secrets in Europe) less crowded than prague and cheap because is not Euro yet, also is a student city therefore you will find better prices on almost everything there.
  • Budapest, it feels bigger that Prague but also has the great hospitality of Prague and other Eastern Europe places and is affordable for the same reason above, is not Euro yet.
  • Brasov in Romania, the place is reachable with flights on wizzair, is very affordable since is not Euro yet, and the city is just Beutiful and small and the people is amazing.
For more western Europe
  • Berlin: Is more a student city so is surprisingly affordable for a place in a developed country such as Germany.
  • Lyon: this is one of the best cities in France to travel, is well known for its great food, is affordable, has many places to visit and if you go at the beguinning of December you can catch the Fete de Lumiere which is their main event.
Again my main suggestion is to try to save on accomodation mainly by couchsurfing that way you will not breaking the bank almost anywhere you go.

What are the best places in Europe to visit in Spring?

There's no real answer to this question I'm afraid. Pretty much all of Europe is fabulous in the Spring. To cut things down, and really make the most of Spring (wearing light clothing, enjoying the outdoors), you could maybe focus on areas that are typically miserable during the Winter or uncomfortably hot in the Summer. For early Spring, Southern Europe - Madrid, Rome, Athens - is fantastic. For late Spring, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin have all defrosted and are all gems. You can't really go wrong!

Do people in China like cupcakes?

First, you should really be asking:
Do people in China know what cupcakes are?

There are many cake-like desserts in China that are shaped in the form of a muffin or a cupcake.
However, what Americans consider cupcakes-- fluffy and moist cakes in a paper cup with frosting piled as high as the cupcake itself--is rare sighting in China.
So the "Sprinkles" and "Kara cupcakes" cult phenomenon does not exist in China.

Why?
Because most Chinese households do not have a conventional oven.
So most baked goods--cupcakes, cookies, cakes, quickbreads, lasagna, casseroles--either do not exist or are bought from the store.

Why do some people love cupcakes?

I love cupcakes for the following reasons:
  • Because the cake to frosting ratio is more even than that of regular cake. I hate eating cake when i wind up with too much icing overpowering the flavor of the cake.  this rarely happens with cupcakes.
  • They come in single serve proportions. No serving utensils required, just unwrap and eat.
  • They come in many flavors, but you don't have to commit to one. If you order a cake, you get one flavor. Or, you can order multiple flavors of cupcakes and get the same amount of dessert.
  • Because I have fond associations from my childhood. Cupcakes tended to accompany in-school celebrations of people's birthdays, and therefore signified an unusual and special treat.  Through pavlovian training, I still feel unreasonably delighted and lucky to get a cupcake.

What is the difference between cupcakes and muffins?

The technical distinctions between cupcakes and muffins are the ingredients as well as the processes through which they are made, which then determine the leavening agents and leavening processes.

A Muffin is either within the quickbread subset of breads or just a bread depending on the recipe:
  • For quickbreads: the leavening agents are primarily baking soda [chemical leavening] and/or baking powder [chemical leavening] and also may include whipping in eggs [mechanically induced chemical leavening] and usually all ingredients are mixed simultaneously.
  • Most other breads are made with yeast [biological leavening] and are then kneaded [mechanically induced chemical leavening].
A Cupcake is within the cake subset of the of desserts:
  • Although they may also use baking soda [chemical leavening], the baking process stars out with creaming butter and sugar [mechanical leavening]: , then whipping in eggs [mechanically induced chemical leavening], followed by mixing other wet ingredients and then finally the dry ingredients.

In summary:
Muffins are never creamed, Cupcakes never include yeast,
Cupcakes must be vigorously mixed, Muffins may contain a living beast.

Why have cupcakes become so popular, in-style?

I think it has to do with the trend towards "cute" in recent years. Examples of this obsession with cuteness are cropping up everywhere:

  • sites like http://cuteoverload.com/ and http://dailyotter.org/ that aggregate images of cute things
  • movies like Up! and Wall-E that make traditionally non-cute things cute, i.e. an old man and a robot
  • services like Twitter and Brizzly, which are branded with cute graphics like the fail whale and the bear icon

Cupcakes don't feel as extravagant as large cakes or fancy desserts; they're cute! They also fit nicely into yuppie culture, which probably helped spread them across the country. Now that dedicated cupcakes shops are so ubiquitous cupcakes are becoming mainstream.

Why do people love to visit Italy?

Italy is intimate, romantic, noisy, dirty, and generally an "in your face" experience. I have always felt comfortable traveling in groups at all hours in the cities I have visited. Like most places theft is a problem so the tourist should be aware. There is a lack of safety both for the driver and pedestrians on roads; informational signage is absent on many roads other than the autostrada (highway). Once again, caution is required. Also some things such as hours of service are not so convenient. For example, many food vendors and markets are open only in the morning. Even gas stations are not always attended. But once you accept the difference in the culture it is very possible to enjoy yourself immensely in Italy. Living there is very different from visiting. The cost of living is high and the wages and hours are modest. Many people work more than one part-time job in their fields. Getting an education, even though it is almost free at public universities, is a long difficult task and many professional programs have cuts. Taxes I believe are high and pensions are low. Therefore, Italy desperately needs and wants our tourism dollars. So go as often as you can afford to and experience Italy as deeply as your love for culture, food, art, natural beauty, etc. indulges you.

How much would it cost to travel Europe for three months or longer?

It depends a lot on where you go. Eastern Europe is much cheaper, England is very expensive. I would say that you could get by on 50 Euros per day for Western Europe if you really tried hard, less for Eastern Europe. These numbers are based on my personal experience in addition to travel budget numbers submitted by multiple people at www.budgetyourtrip.com
