First, you should really be asking:
Do people in China know what cupcakes are?
There are many cake-like desserts in China that are shaped in the form of a muffin or a cupcake.

However, what Americans consider cupcakes-- fluffy and moist cakes in a paper cup with frosting piled as high as the cupcake itself--is rare sighting in China.
So the "Sprinkles" and "Kara cupcakes" cult phenomenon does not exist in China.
Why?
Why?
Because most Chinese households do not have a conventional oven.
So most baked goods--cupcakes, cookies, cakes, quickbreads, lasagna, casseroles--either do not exist or are bought from the store.
